Message from Chapter President

Dear Members,

It gives me great pleasure to introduce an unique initiative launched by National HRD Network (NHRDN) Mumbai Chapter in March’12 to leverage & support the strengthening of Gender Diversity in Corporate India. We call this movement ‘WOMENTORING

The Mumbai NHRDN Chapter is the first Chapter nationally to recognize that strategic decision making in Corporates, takes place best when we recognize that there is value in diversity of views. The hues and colors of perspectives that emerge, represent true openness. We can use such diversity as a powerful lever for balanced decision making. One can use the metaphor of a kaleidoscope to understand the importance of differing perspectives in this ever changing world. Encouraging the female gender gives us a more interesting and productive work place, because stereo types are challenged.

There are also issues that women in careers continue to face in spite of the liberal mindset that many companies claim to have adopted. What has started as a few seeds being sown with the idea, has evolved into an ongoing initiative, touching all aspects of building a gender balanced organization. In its short lifespan, ‘WoMentoring’ has left its footprint across 400+ participants, and a variety of organizations. The ‘WoMentoring’ Committee is a group of like minded professionals who, in addition to their professional roles from a variety of organizations, form an expert panel on gender related initiatives to provide awareness, training, capability to companies/employees/individuals in this area. A recent research project undertaken as a part of this initiative in which almost 600 participants filled in questionnaires, is likely to throw up useful insights that will help corporates to chart out a concrete plan of action to bring more women to center stage.

Our vision and mission is to connect and inspire women to advance in their careers with the strong urge to be an effective mentoring organization for women in Corporate.

The focus is on designing, developing and delivering initiatives to help in building confidence and capabilities of women in Corporate India, and provide the support and guidance that both men and women might need to reach this common aspiration.

The ‘WoMentoring’ Committee partners with corporations wishing to develop and retain their female talent. Research shows organizations outperform other companies when they have a higher percentage of females in leadership positions and we recognize the opportunity we have of testing this hypothesis and giving this movement the required traction.
